Car Raffle

The Car is a Cobra* Replica built by Superformance. It is number 1579, bought in New Orleans in 2003. It has 6569 miles as of April 2, 2011. The Motor is originally a Windsor 351 cubic inch. It has been bored to 0.040” over the original size. It has a High performance crankshaft and rods made of 4340 steel, made by Eagle. 410 Cubic inches. The pistons are Wyseco, forged aluminum, ceramic coated tops and Teflon coated skirts. It has Edelbrock aluminum heads a high performance cam about which I have no details. The injection system is Hilborn, with an engine control unit by Motec, set up by Sam Shalala. Ignition is MSD. The transmission is a 5 speed Tremec. The differential is Ford 8.8, with 3.27:1 ratio (I think). 460 HP at the wheels by dyno.

When setting up for Fuel injection, a custom aluminum Fuel tank was made with acceleration baffles to combat fuel flow loss during turns or acceleration with lower fuel levels.

The car came with spin off wheels, which gave the car an original look but which I found difficult. I changed to bolt on wheels, and used 17 in Boyd Coddington wheels. Certainly not a 1965 look, but a great look which I preferred. Front tires are 275/40R17. Rear tires are 315/35R17. It can handle 335/35R17. The tires are Kumho V710 Ecsta and are new.

The front brakes were changed. It now has 2 master brake cylinders with an adjustment for front/rear bias. Rear rotors are unchanged from Superformance, 10 inch Wilwood. The front rotors are 12.72”X1.25” Wilwood with 6 piston Calipers. The brakes are not vacuum power assisted.

The car looks and sounds wonderful. It is running, licensed, in Texas with inspection stickers up to date.
It has a Tonneau cover, soft top with side windows, and the original cover by Superformance. The stereo is a perfect balance between right and left sidepipes, Jet-Hot coated steel. No way can you hear music while this car is running. There is no GPS, wherever you are is where you want to be in this car.

*Cobra is a trademark name owned by Ford and Shelby. When this car was made, Superformance could not use the name Cobra. Since then some kind of agreement is present between Superformance and Carol Shelby, but the car is officially a Superformance Mark III.
